The consortium agreement of the UPACMIC project was signed by Ramboll Finland Oy, Belvedere Mining, Ekokem and Suomen Maastorakentajat. The project has officially been launched!
2014

Laboratory testing with alternative materials was launched and preliminary results were available in the beginning of the year 2015.
2015

UPACMIC project was presented in WASCON conference in Santander, Spain on 10th-12th June 2015. http://wascon2015.geruc.es/

Due to Belvedere Mining bankruptcy the company will withdraw from the project and Ramboll Finland, Ekokem (later Fortum Environmental Construction) and Suomen Maastorakentajat will continue implementing the project actions.

Field tests in Pyhäsalmi Mine started in spring 2016 on the basis of previous laboratory studies. On the basis of field tests the construction solutions for pilot-construction will be chosen.

UPACMIC project was presented in May in Budapest at the invitation of LIFE Hungary Capacity Building project

The pilot construction of the cover structures started in Hitura Mine. The mine must be closed and the constructor is Fortum Environmental Construction. Fiber clay will be utilized first time in Finland in the mining environment.

During the WASCON2018 conference www.wascon2018.com, an international workshop was arranged by the UPACMIC project. Swedish company Ecoloop AB www.ecoloop.se also presented their project and shared experiences on using green liquor dredge in the mining environment.

Hitura I stage completed: cover structure utilized with fiber clay has been piloted. The constructor was Fortum Waste Solutions Oy.
